Photoshop (beginning)…………………… Marty Belcher, Harmony School
Learn the basics: Start by taking photographs, then learn to modify them using Photoshop. You’ll work with the tool palette, layers, filters, images, text, etcetera. You’ll discover the fun of experimenting with Photoshop’s many variables and creating sophisticated designs. By learning a few simple things, a whole new world of possibilities will open up. By the end of the second week, you’ll have a portfolio of original work.
Photoshop (advanced)……… ….Staci Jennings, South HS, Art teacher
Again, starting with taking digital pictures, you’ll start to modify them in more complex manners. You’ll experiment with lighting effects, depth of field, and merging elements. You’ll create a series of related images based upon a theme of your choosing—animals, places, people, things, etc. By the end of this class you should have a solid understanding of what Photoshop can do and be able to move forward on your own.
Computer Programming (Python)………Jon Cracraft, Harmony School
This class provides everything one needs to know in order to begin writing computer programs using the programming language Python. No previous experience with computer programming is required.
The class focuses on how to write working programs. It introduces the general structure of computer programs, data types, variable assignment, operators, keywords, branching, loops and functions. You will learn to write, test and debug small programs capable of making calculations, sorting data, and playing simple games.
Film Shorts (imovie/FCP)……….Ursina Hastings-Heinz, Harmony School
You will learn how to use a digital video camera, study basic film composition and practice digital editing on imovie or Final Cut Pro. Then you’ll storyboard your idea, shoot, edit, add transitions and sound, and create a DVD to share your final work.
Darkroom Photography……………….Mia Beach, local photographer/artist
The basics of darkroom photography: you will learn how to process black and white film, as well as print black and white photos in the darkroom. Both traditional and non-traditional printing methods will be used, with an emphasis on technical skills as well as experimentation. Different methods may include, but aren’t limited to: black and white prints, photograms, double exposures, and more.
Digital Photography……………………………..Scott Evans, Harmony School

The class will focus on (but not be limited to) wildlife photography in
natural lighting. We will take field trips to various locations around
Monroe County by bus and foot.
Electronic Music and montage………Paul Swanson, Harmony School
In the first week of this course we will learn the basics of rhythm analysis, sound sampling and editing using Soundforge, and remixing using Sony Acid. During the second week, we will take the tracks that we have created and use photos and video clips to build a video montage to accompany it. By the end of the two weeks, students will know enough to begin making original music and creating their own YouTube music videos.
Green Design and Technology…………Emily Sprowls, Harmony School
Explore some alternatives to how buildings are designed and electricity is generated. We'll visit some examples of environmentally-friendly technology around Bloomington, examine some cool ideas about how to make our spaces more "green," and design some creative approaches to dealing with climate change.
