Graduation
Within Harmony School, there are three graduation
criteria. These milestones are achieved through a combination of academic,
social and community achievements.
A student graduates from the elementary school by (1) demonstrating
age-level achievement on standardized tests in language arts, math,
science and social studies, (2) conducting a research project with a
written and verbal presentation at the conclusion, and (3) completing
one week of volunteer work in the community.
A student graduates from the middle school by (1)
earning credit in each of their core classes: math, language arts/social
studies, and science (2) earning a credit for social responsibility,
and (3) completing a semester-long graduation project.
At the high school level, a student receives a diploma
after (1) earning 28 academic credits, (2) demonstrating academic competency,
(3) being voted by a majority of the high school community as being
a responsible, considerate and contributing member of the school community
with a sense of humor, and (4) completing an independent project of
approximately one semester's length culminating in a written and oral
presentation.
Sixty percent of Harmony's graduates have gone on
to attend some of the nation's best and most innovative colleges and
universities, including Columbia, U.C. Berkeley, Brown, Antioch, Hampshire,
Indiana University, and Friends World College. On the California Achievement
Test, Harmony students usually score one to three years above grade
level. Harmony's emphasis on lifelong learning, teamwork, and self-esteem
gives those graduates entering the workforce the skills and attitudes
necessary for success.
