Exploration and Creation Classes
Exploration and Creation classes are
elective classes that are offered in the afternoons. Classes are offered
in areas such as the arts, sports, publishing of writings like the yearbook,
psychology, electronics, cooking, and drama. Teachers determine what
they want to offer and to what age group for these month-long classes.
The choices are offered during the last week of the month preceding
the classes, and students select their first, second and third choices.
If a student doesn't get his first choice one month, the organizers
try to honor this persons first choice the following month. Sometimes
the teachers are high school students, parents or members
of the community. Often these are mixed-ages classes.
Exploration
and creation classes alternate from month to month. One month Exploration
classes will be offered on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays from 1:00
until 1:50, and the next month Creation classes will be offered on Thursday
afternoons from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m. In other words, Exploration and
Creation classes will be offered in alternate months. This allows for
more flexibility and larger blocks of time for programs to use at their
discretion.
Our goal this year is to post Exploration and Creation
choices on the Web page (and in hard copy on the bulletin board over
the mailboxes) during the beginning of the last week of the month preceding
the classes to be offered. This will allow students and parents to talk
about the choices and make thoughtful decisions.
