2013 HS Trip to Asheville

May 15, 2013

All is well here at Camp Daniel Boone, out in the Smokey Mountains of western North Carolina.  We are within sight of Cold Mountain, and the first night here it was cold indeed!  Overall, though, the weather has been spectacular – today was 78 degrees and sunny.  The first full day we were here most of the students headed into Asheville to explore, while others went on hikes around the campsite.  Their hikes inspired others on Day Two, and a bunch of students were able to summit Cold Mountain.  Other groups went to Asheville and to Dupont State Forest, as well as to a 60′ natural waterslide called Sliding Rock.  Today, one small group went out to the Biltmore Estate and another went tubing down Deep Creek.  So far so good!
