Ninth Grade American English students are working their way through a 100-word vocabulary list compiled from educators of core subjects. Each student will receive 10 words to etymologically research and will begin reading a selected novel or work of non-fiction as a semester requirement culminating in thoughtful and formal written responses.

Greek & Latin Roots class is studying words about conversational skills and talking habits. An example of grandiloquence or magniloquence would be: “In promulgating my esoteric cogitations, I shall make most earnest endeavor to avoid platitudinous ponderosity and have my endeavor possess a clarified conciseness which shall truly be keeping with the topic in hand…” Uh huh.

Depth Psychology students have been introduced to a century’s overview of theories and schools about why we think, feel and behave the way we do. They have received an overview of Jungian personality components and typology and are taking the Meyers-Briggs Personality Inventory to gain insight into their own attitudes and functions. The three purposes of this class are to gain self-knowledge, honor fairy tales and myths, and to understand a bit more about psychoanalysis, humanists and existentialists, behaviorists, and multicultural theories and practice.
For fifth period, I’ve joined The World Today with Sallyann, as she raises journalistic consciousness in our participants.
