News from Emily’s Class:

November 12, 2012

The Biochemistry class is busy doing lots of lab activities, including extracting pH sensitive pigment molecules and testing the enzymatic activity of their saliva on starch. They are researching the efficacy and government regulation of various herbal remedies and dietary supplements. The Research Seminar scientists have proposed their research projects and starting to get their experiments underway. One student is using research she started this summer on the behaviors of cowbirds to ask some new and interesting questions about how the birds learn from one another. The Physics class, with plenty of help from Alan, has already figured out how to calculate acceleration due to gravity. Our values were a little bit off the accepted 9.8m/s2, but they employed plenty of ingenious methods to retrieve the golf balls launched from the Harmony windows.
