News from the 3rd and 4th grade

We are excited to be back in session with an awesome bunch of kiddos! We have already jumped right in with reading, math, and authoring, and we’re kicking off the year with Body Works classes that involve kicking – soccer and kickball!
We are taking advantage of the beautiful late summer/early autumn weather to study ecosystems for our first theme. We will be learning and practicing how to observe, identify, and analyze living things (trees! insects!), using science journals to document our learning. Most exciting of all, we have the opportunity to work with Brown County State Park to take part in some authentic work in a previously unexplored part of the forest. We have already spent an afternoon with the naturalists at McCormick’s Creek State Park for a lesson on tree identification, and hiked around the nearly empty Griffy Reservoir to learn about human impact on ecosystems. The kids seem excited to be out in nature, and so are we! -Lana
