We just returned from our spring trip to Red River Gorge. We climbed the challenging Via Ferrata in the rain and several of our students completed the most difficult section, “The Black Diamond.” We all pushed ourselves to our limits and it was an exhilarating experience. (See photos on our web page!). Unfortunately, the river was too high for our eight mile trip down the gorge but we were able to kayak and canoe at Millcreek Lake instead. We also hiked to Natural Bridge and visited the Reptile Zoo. We saw cobras from India, a python from Burma, and all kinds of diamond backs, just to mention a few. The owners, Jim and Kristen have over 2000 snakes and ship venom extraction all over the world for medical purposes.
Now we are getting ready for 7th grade final presentations and graduation presentation the following week. We’ll schedule two each in the morning and afternoon from M – Th, May 21st – 24th. A schedule will be posted in the middle school lounge. Monday May 21st is Yearbook distribution day.
On Friday we’ll have our traditional picnic at Cascades. Please join us for Middle School Graduation Saturday May 26th at 2:30.
Many thanks to everyone who helped with our fundraisers, (which considerably helped bring down the cost of our trip), all the parents who used their PIP hours to contribute to the school, and the parents who helped us upon our return from the trip.
Special thanks to Mike Hoffmann for his continued support with our Macs and to Bob Togasaky for an inspiring course in physical science.
As the school year draws to an end, amidst all the hectic and stressful details, I always feel a bit sad because I worked so closely with a group of students and had the opportunity to get to know them well. We are all so fortunate to be part of this small community.
